SAFELY REMOVING INVASIVE PLANTS

Plant Process
Autumn Olive Remove as many berries as possible to prevent dispersal by birds and other wildlife. Remove any visible seedlings and mature trees if possible. Burn, compost or discard plants after removing fruit.
Garlic Mustard It is best to remove the plants before they go to seed. Remove as much of the plant as possible including the root. Do not compost! Be careful not to disperse seeds, because they remain viable for years. Burn or bag and discard unused parts.
Japanese Knotweed Remove as much of the plant as possible especially the root. Do not compost! Burn or bag and discard. Any fragments left on the ground or put in compost can sprout a new plant.
Multiflora Rose Remove as much of the plant as possible after harvesting rose hips, including the root. Burn, compost or discard in location where re-sprouting is not possible.

Carrot
Burn or bag and discard unused parts. Be careful not to disperse seeds.
Wild Parsnip Burn or bag and discard unused parts. Be careful not to disperse seeds, because they remain viable for many years.
